Put-n’ Out At Put in Bay

Posted by admin on July 2, 2009

I just got back from a short weekend trip to Put in Bay, OH.  Put in Bay is a really cool little island on Lake Erie.  It’s a short ferry ride to the island from Port Clinton or Marblehead, OH.  The island is like a little Key West for northerners.

I went up with the boys for a one day walleye fishing trip which was cancelled due to weather.  We spent the night in some shitty little trailer in Port Clinton.  We hung out all night by the fire driniking beer and telling lies.  We woke up before sunrise to find our fishing trip cancelled because of a small craft advisory on Lake Erie.

We ended up heading over to Put in Bay instead.  Holy Shit what a trip.  We rented a golf cart for the day which was perfect for getting around the small island while in a drunken stooper.  We started off slow, just drinking a few beers at all the different bars while cruising the island and seeing all it had to offer.  There’s a lot of really cool sites and history to see on the island.

One of our first stops was Heinemans Winery where  Chris (co-writer on Mancationz.com) had a little too much Pinot Grigio (4 glasses) and began telling several strangers around us how hard he cried when he heard of Michael Jackson’s untimely death.  Chris was cut off and we left.

We continued cruising the island and taking in all the sites.  We were amazed at all the beautiful bikini clad women running around the island…drinking…heavily.  We stopped at Mr. Ed’s for lunch.  We sat out on the patio; ate, drank and flirted with our cute waitress.

During the day, the island is very family friendly and there’s a lot of cool stuff for the kids to see and do.  At night there’s an amazing transformation into a not so kid friendly Disney Land for drunks.  There’s several really cool bars in the downtown area (Mr. Ed’s, Frosty’s, Mossbacks, The Roundhouse & more).  Most of them provide Key West style entertainment like the famous folk singer, Pat Daily.  It’s a great party atmoshere and those same bikini clad women get friendlier as the night progresses.

This was one hell of a Mancation weekend and I would highly recommend it to anyone living within driving distance to Lake Erie.  If you have a boat, even better.  Dock it and hang out in the marina which gets just as crazy as the downtown area.

Be sure to get in at least a one day Walleye trip while you’re there.  Lake Erie provides some of the best Walleye fishing in the world.  You can book a half day or full day trip which can include lodging in one of their shitty little trailers.  But the shittier the lodging, the more fun the trip is in my opinion.

Tell us about your Mancation to Put in Bay, or fishing trip on Lake Erie.  We would love to hear from you.
